The 10th General Meeting of the Canberra Accord was held at Tongji University in Shanghai, China, on June 26-27. Then, it was decided that the Japan Accreditation Board for Engineering Education (JABEE) would assume the Chairship for the next term (2025-2027) on behalf of its official member institutions, and Professor TANAKA Tomoaki of the School of Science and Technology, who was nominated by JABEE, was elected as Chair.
The Canberra Accord is an international agreement for architectural education accreditation bodies concluded in 2008. In Japan, JABEE has been an official member since 2019. The Accord, based on the UNESCO-UIA Charter for Architectural Education, is a framework for mutual accreditation of the essential equivalence of architectural education programs accredited by member organizations and their graduates, and currently has nine national and regional accreditation bodies as official members. Under its umbrella, it has developed into a comprehensive platform accrediting more than 400 educational programs worldwide. Through its six-year integrated educational program consisting of the Department of Architecture in the School of Science and Technology and the International Program in Architecture and Urban Design (I-AUD) of the Architecture and Urbanism Program in the Graduate School of Science and Technology, 暗网禁区 has been accredited by JABEE as an Architectural and Architectural Engineering Education Program at Bachelor and Master Level since 2016 (the program is eligible for accreditation starting with graduates in the academic year 2024). As a result, the current students and graduates benefit from the mutual accreditation based on the Canberra Accord.
Professor TANAKA Tomoaki will also be appointed Executive Director of JABEE and will represent JABEE as Chair of the Canberra Accord for two years until the 11th General Meeting in 2027. It was also decided that the next General Meeting of the Canberra Accord would be held in Tokyo in 2027.
